Lecture entitled (Sewage in Baghdad: Reality and Ambition)

Within the activities of the Cultural Season of the Environmental Research Center, The Director of our Center, Professor Dr. Zainab Baha Muhammad, gave a lecture entitled (Sewage in Baghdad: Reality and Ambition). The lecture dealt with the reality of sewage in Baghdad and its components, which are the conveying pipes, lifting stations, and existing treatment plants, and highlighted the challenges that sewage suffers from and the proposed solutions.

Training Course in Dealing with Natural Radioactivity Samples 

 A staff of members of the Environmental Research Center (Dr. Zahra Zahraw Farhan - Asst Lec. Israa Radhi Abbas – Asst. Chief Physicist Basaad Hadi Jazaa) participated in the training course entitled "Calibration of the Sodium Iodide Scintillation Detectors", which was held at the University of Babylon / College of Science/ Department of Physics on 1/15/2025, the participants were trained on calibrating and using the thallium-activated sodium iodide detector system NaI (TI) as well as installing and using the MAESTRO program for the aforementioned device. The training included methods of dealing with radioactive samples, analysing, and calculating levels of natural radioactivity.

Development and Creativity Festival

Under the patronage of His Excellency the Minister of Higher Education, Dr. Naeem Al-Aboudi, and in the presence of the Undersecretary of the Ministry for Scientific Research Affairs, Prof. Dr. Haider Abdul Dhahd, the Assistant President of the University for Scientific Affairs, Prof. Dr. Khawla Salah Khashan, and the Head of the Women's Affairs Unit, Assistant Professor Dr. Mona Taha Idris, and with the distinguished sponsorship and support of the Director of the Environmental Research Center, Prof. Dr. Zainab Baha Muhammad, we participated in the annual festival for development and creativity entitled "If You Prepare It", which was organized by the Women's Affairs Department / Minister's Office in the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, which was held in Al-Hakim Hall at the University of Baghdad. The delegation of the Environmental Research Center, represented by Assistant Professor Dr. Afif Abdul Rahman Al-Sabbagh, Assistant Professor Ala Hamid Mahmoud, and Assistant Professor Asmaa Nafi Badri, had a clear and distinguished participation to achieve the role of academic women, and the University of Technology was honored with the Shield of Creativity and Technological Excellence. The festival witnessed effective participation by a number of Iraqi universities and representatives of various organizations.

"Workshop on "Violence against women and its psychological effects on the family and society

The Office of the President of the University for Scientific Affairs and Postgraduate Studies / Department of Chemical, Biological and Radiation Safety and Security, in cooperation with the Environmental Research Center and the Women's Affairs Unit, held a workshop chaired by Assistant Professor Dr. Azhar Mahmoud Halim and membership of Assistant Professor Dr. Zahraa Zahra and Assistant Professor Dr. Afif Abdul Rahman Al-Sabbagh, where the lecturer, Assistant Professor Hanin Rashid, gave a lecture entitled "Violence against Women and its Psychological Effects on the Family and Society" on Tuesday 12/17/2024 in Dr. Jawamir Hall in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Technology, which dealt with violence against women, its effects and negative indicators in the life of society, the mechanism for avoiding this uncivilized phenomenon and ways to address it, the legal legislation that works to reduce it, and how to psychologically treat abusers in order to advance our society and the Iraqi family in particular, and to raise children in a safe and stable environment.

Participation in the annual meeting of UNICEF

The lecturer at our center, Assistant Lecturer Abdul Aziz Ahmed Hamad, participated in the annual meeting of UNICEF for the year 2024 to discuss the projects implemented by the organization in Iraq, especially at the University of Technology. The experience of implementing projects at the university and the extent of the economic and environmental benefit of these projects and the future and proposed plans for the coming year were discussed.
